Sotomayor, Mi Amor!

26 May

A Latina woman to hold the highest judiciary office?! Kelly was right, I have to pay my respects to Obama’s nomination of Sonia Sotomayor for Supreme Court Justice: A daughter of the Bronx, one of the first women to attend Princeton University, the judge that “saved baseball” from the strike in 1995, and PUERTO RICAN! (Check out Huffington Post‘s, “Sonia Sotomayor: 10 Things You Should Know”)

In the wake of this, Mike Huckabee has been of the first to comment. In a statement on Huckabee’s personal website he calls Sonia Sotomayor “Maria Sotomayor”….really?? Already with the accidental-calling-of-the-Marias. The error has been fixed and now he comments in full:

The appointment of Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court is the clearest indication yet that President Obama’s campaign promises to be a centrist and think in a bi-partisan way were mere rhetoric. Sotomayor comes from the far left and will likely leave us with something akin to the “Extreme Court” that could mark a major shift. The notion that appellate court decisions are to be interpreted by the “feelings” of the judge is a direct affront of the basic premise of our judicial system that is supposed to apply the law without personal emotion. If she is confirmed, then we need to take the blindfold off Lady Justice.

Incredible. Take the bitch’s blindfold off, I’d love to see how Lady Justice would react to our historical blindness and objectivity in court hearings.

I’m sure this is just the beginning of the GOP backlash, but for now, how fantastic to live in a time when so many old rules are being broken.
